A Dream Dealer of Plum Blossom rank, serving as unit head of the Kakitsubata team within the Oneirodynia Division. Works alongside Ai as her senior partner, serving within the division as a therapist. A heavy smoker who cannot, by constitution, drink alcohol. Reserved at first impression, but sincere and gentle at heart, and deeply devoted to Linh, his partner, who runs a flower shop.

By the standards of the Association's younger practitioners, he is regarded as something of a skilled hand, though he would never say so himself. Warm and gentle by nature, he takes genuine pleasure in seeing others content. This same quality, however, leads him to tell small, comfortable lies on others' behalf without much hesitation, a habit that quietly tightens around him. Kugui has remarked, not unkindly, that he seems to lack a will of his own.
He has been thinking of proposing to Linh for some time, though the right moment continues to elude him. Should they marry, he intends to leave the Association and help her with the shop, only he has yet to find the words to tell Reimei. His affection for the late Akira has never faded, nor has the anger he carries over Akira's death. 世界に2人しか存在しない「奇蹟屋」の能力者。3年前に自ら命を絶ち、現在は故人。情熱的で奔放、仲間と理想を愛している。執念深い一面も。彗の元婚約者。
One of only two omnihandlers in existence. Took his own life three years ago and is no longer living. Passionate, free-spirited, and a lover of his companions and his ideals, though once slighted, he was not a man who forgot easily. Sui's former fiancé.

As an omnihandler, he possessed the ability to manipulate all fortune and misfortune, bending the world to his will. Records suggest that those who carry this ability are seldom long-lived, and Akira seemed to arrive at some quiet understanding of this before taking his own life. Having discovered his ability at sixteen, he spent several years exercising it with great caution, but grew weary of intervening in natural disasters and the workings of the world, and eventually ceased to use it altogether.
Generous and warm by nature, with a genuine love of the outdoors, he filled whatever room he entered. He could, however, be relentless when crossed, and his chronic infidelity caused Sui and those around him no small amount of grief. Despite this, he and Sui had reached the point of engagement. He doted on Fu as though he were a younger brother, and clung to Kei with a devotion that bordered on inseparable, though something of that closeness shifted once his relationship with Sui began. He had the largest appetite in the orphanage, and spent much of his time outdoors with Kayo, hiking and by the sea.
In life, he worked as a waiter in cafés and bars, setting aside money for the wedding he and Sui never had. Almost nothing remains of his belongings; before his death, he gave his entire library to Kayo. Three years after his passing, on the Chrysanthemum Festival, he appeared at Kayo's bedside in a dream and left him with a single request: find the successor to the omnihandler.
His name derives from the fact that, as a child, he was said to have particularly good ears.

Sui Kisaragi
天候を操る「空転屋」の能力者で、気象庁所属。聡の自殺の際に感情が暴走して東湟を嵐に陥れ、以来気象庁の管理下に置かれている。明るくおおらかで、したたかさも持ち合わせた人物。聡の元婚約者。
A cloud shrinker employed by the Meteorological Agency. When Akira took his own life, her grief triggered a storm that threw Tokyō into chaos, and she has since been subject to a number of restrictions through her post. Bright and easygoing, with a shrewdness that is easy to underestimate. Akira's former fiancée.

When Akira died, her grief became a storm severe enough to throw Tokyō into disarray. She was briefly detained by senior figures at the Meteorological Agency, and took up a post there shortly afterwards. She now works from home, logging weather data and keeping her ability in check. As a civil servant within the Agency, she is subject to a number of operational restrictions, among them the requirement to submit advance notice before leaving the city.
Easygoing and warm, generous in both spirit and gesture, and not one for formal occasions. She reads a room well, however, and there is more shrewdness to her than first impressions suggest. Her relationship with Akira was frequently complicated by his infidelity, though she was not without similar tendencies herself, and they eventually made their peace as two of a kind. Kayo spent no small amount of energy managing the fallout from their arguments. They had reached the point of engagement when Akira died, and the happiness of it vanished all at once. He was, in truth, her first love. The grief has not fully left her.
She is a capable cook, and rarely without something on the stove. What began as a matter of feeding Akira's considerable appetite became, in time, a genuine pleasure. Kayo has been known to declare her cooking the finest in the world. She tends to worry about people who eat too little.
She has never been particularly guarded when it comes to love, and is prone to accepting affection simply because it is offered, without asking too much of herself in return. Shrewd enough not to lose herself in it. She has no particular partner at present, though a certain set of circumstances has led to an ongoing physical relationship with Akoh, of which no one else is aware.
Her name was inspired by Kei's observation that she never cried on nights when the sky was full of stars, and by the fact that she was born in the year a comet made its closest approach to the earth.

伽刃流 鵠
Kugui Togibana
自ら描いたものを三次元に具現化する「阿絵師」の能力を持つ青年。過去に複数の重罪を犯し少年監獄に服役していたが、赤穂の身元引受により社会復帰している。解離性同一性障害を抱え、複数の人格を持つ。現在は枷葉が主治担当。
A young man with the ability to bring whatever he draws into three-dimensional existence. He has served time in a juvenile detention facility for a number of serious crimes, and has since re-entered society under Akoh's guardianship. He lives with dissociative identity disorder and carries several distinct personalities. Currently under Kayo's care as his primary therapist.

生まれは東湟ではなく、逅艾（ハジャイ）と呼ばれる自治区。阿片を元に巨万の富を築いた一族の末っ子として生まれたが、両親はすでに他界している。かつては逅艾で未成年ギャングのリーダーとして犯罪で金を稼いでいたが、仲間に裏切られ売春宿に売られたことで失脚し、その後警察に保護されて東湟の少年監獄に送致された。薬物販売、詐欺、恐喝、殺人など複数の罪で起訴されたものの、精神疾患および未成年であることを理由に更生プログラムの対象となり、赤穂が国選弁護人として担当したことをきっかけに身元を引き受けた。以後すべての裁判を赤穂が担っている。現在は桔梗荘に部屋を与えられているものの、帰ることは少ない。
割り切れぬ過去により解離性同一性障害を抱え、複数の人格を持つ。別人格たちはそれぞれ鳥の名前で呼ばれており、普段表に出てくるのは孔雀・百舌・夜鷹・燕・ツツなどである。鵠自身としての時間は意外と少なく、誰がいつ出現しているのかは誰も把握していない。枷葉が主治担当を務めており、以前は藍がその役目を果たしていた。

夢境管理人〈竹〉として枷葉の下で働くセラピスト。年上の経験から枷葉をリードする案件も多い。幼少期の火事で両親を失い、突発性の健忘症を抱える。人間にはあまり愛着がないが、兄・赤穂への愛情だけは深く、歪で、揺るがない。
A Dream Dealer of Bamboo Leaf rank, working under Kayo. Her seniority in age and experience means she often takes the lead on cases, despite her formal position as his subordinate. She lost her parents in a house fire in childhood and has lived with sporadic amnesia ever since. 嘘を暴き幻覚を操る「虚構執行人」。国立東湟最高裁の裁判長官の一人を務める。藍の兄で、鵠の後見人。口数は少なく、私生活のほとんどを語らない。

He contracted severe tuberculosis in early childhood and spent his formative years in a sanatorium, continuing his studies throughout. It was there that he met a nurse named Kyrill Asturias, and his life changed entirely. He recovered from the illness, and has since possessed an uncanny capacity for physical self-repair. He and Kirill are currently engaged, though they have not been able to meet in person since his recovery; their correspondence is conducted through Kugui. After leaving the sanatorium he relocated to Tokyō, made up his academic losses through correspondence education, and entered university to study law. He volunteered for military service during his studies and spent two and a half years with the army and the civil police. Following the completion of his postgraduate studies, he practised as a barrister, then transferred to the judiciary. He is currently one of the presiding justices of the Supreme Court, and the youngest ever appointed to the position.
Quiet and composed, with a strong sense of propriety. His manner of speech is gentle and considered; he responds to those who address him with sincerity, and is not above a dry remark on occasion. He does not naturally join in noisy conversation, and does not laugh loudly. His reputation at work is consistently good, though it is not quite the same thing as warmth. He is, for reasons no one has satisfactorily explained, considerably more talkative in Kugui's company.

物静かで冷静、礼節に厚い。言葉遣いは穏やかで丁寧で、話しかけられれば誠実に返す。ちょっとした冗談も言う。ただし賑やかな雑談の輪には自然と加わらず、大声で笑うこともない。職場での印象は一貫して良いが、親しみやすさとは少し異なる。なぜか鵠を相手にするときだけよく喋る。
陸軍では膂力と博識で知られていたが、その目立ちやすさが仇となり壮絶な体罰や暴行に遭っている。当時軍医として従軍していた黎明に世話になったのはその頃のことである。
鵠の国選および私選弁護人を務め、後見人として治療を藍や枷葉に依頼している。鵠とは長く複雑な経緯を持つ仲で、本人は腐れ縁だと認識している。
仕事上の誠実さと私生活の間には、深い断絶がある。その私生活を知る者は皆無に等しい。
名前の由来は「紅下」と、締め殺しの木として名高い「雀榕」から。 Born 29th December, Capricorn. Early thirties, 185cm. Long black hair, black eyes, heavy brows. He wears dark changshan or suits in all circumstances, professional and personal alike. Well-featured and well-liked; he has never wanted for company. He keeps his hair long in observance of a tradition from his home of Nagano, whereby an unmarried man cuts his hair only after the betrothal gifts have been exchanged.
He contracted severe tuberculosis in early childhood and spent his formative years in a sanatorium, continuing his studies throughout. It was there that he met a nurse named Kyrill Asturias, and his life changed entirely. He recovered from the illness, and has since possessed an uncanny capacity for physical self-repair. He and Kirill are currently engaged, though they have not been able to meet in person since his recovery; their correspondence is conducted through Kugui. After leaving the sanatorium he relocated to Tokyō, made up his academic losses through correspondence education, and entered university to study law. He volunteered for military service during his studies and spent two and a half years with the army and the civil police. Following the completion of his postgraduate studies, he practised as a barrister, then transferred to the judiciary. He is currently one of the presiding justices of the Supreme Court, and the youngest ever appointed to the position.
Quiet and composed, with a strong sense of propriety. His manner of speech is gentle and considered; he responds to those who address him with sincerity, and is not above a dry remark on occasion. He does not naturally join in noisy conversation, and does not laugh loudly. His reputation at work is consistently good, though it is not quite the same thing as warmth. He is, for reasons no one has satisfactorily explained, considerably more talkative in Kugui's company.
During his military service he was known for his physical strength and breadth of knowledge, qualities that drew enough attention to make him a target for severe punishment and violence. It was during this period that he came to know Reimei, who was serving as a military physician at the time.
He serves as Kugui's court-appointed and private counsel, and as his legal guardian arranges for his treatment through Ai and Kayo. His history with Kugui is long and complicated; he regards it as an inescapable entanglement.
Between the probity of his professional life and whatever lies beyond it, there is a profound silence. Almost no one has any knowledge of the latter.
His name is drawn from the indigo base layer known as 紅下, and from the strangler fig, a tree renowned for killing its hosts.

It was during an earlier period, when she worked as a nurse, that she met Akoh and changed the course of his life entirely. The two have not been able to meet in person since his recovery, and maintain their correspondence through Kugui. Writes fiction in her spare time. Akoh's fiancée.

Abilities are not apparent at birth. They tend to surface during adolescence, emerging alongside the onset of puberty. Some are inherited through family lines; others appear without precedent or explanation. The degree to which an ability manifests varies enormously between individuals. Some present as a mixture of two or more known types; others possess a recognised ability in only the faintest degree. Formally designated abilities are, in fact, relatively few in number. What follows is a partial account.

A state-recognised public institution established to oversee and formalise Dream Dealers as a licensed profession. Its headquarters are in Tokyō, and it operates in coordination with regional hospitals and medical institutions. Several branch offices exist across the country. Those employed by the Association as therapists hold the status of public servants.

夢境管理人の能力はかなり古くから世界中で観測されていたが、セラピー行為を行う者は稀だった。「夢魔」と呼ばれることが多かった一方で、戦前の日本では「夢治の者」「夢境の者」「蛍」「枕持ち」などと呼ばれていたこともある。戦後まもなく、皐水黎明が鳥生京一・古塩巽実とともに学会を発足。これにより、能力者を統括する仕組みが整った。戦後も能力を「夢治」と呼ぶ人々は少なくない。
The ability to enter the dreams of others has been observed throughout the world since ancient times, though those who employed it for therapeutic purposes were rare. Practitioners were most commonly referred to as dream demons, though in pre-war Japan a number of other terms were in use, among them dream healers, dream walkers, fireflies, and pillow-bearers. Shortly after the war, Reimei Kohsui, together with Kyoichi Torie and Tatsumi Kojio, established the Association, creating for the first time a formal structure to govern those with the ability. The term dream healing remains in use among some practitioners to this day.

To serve as a therapist within the Association, practitioners must complete training in psychoanalytic treatment techniques and psychiatric medicine. Knowledge of structuralism and philosophy is expected, though formal completion of study in these areas is not a requirement. In practice, interpersonal skill and personal character are considered more important than the strength of one's ability, and compatibility with individual patients plays a significant role in the work.

能力の強さは梅・竹・松の3段階に区分される。通常は「松」が最上級とされるが、発起人の黎明が戦時中に夢の中で梅の花にまつわるお告げを受けたことから、この学会では「梅」を最上級とする。黎明いわく、「最上の夢境管理人は、相手の夢では暗香のように、姿かたちを見せずとも暗闇から香りのみを発揮し、静かに去っていく」のが理想だという。
Practitioners are ranked according to the strength of their ability across three tiers: Plum Blossom, Bamboo Leaf, and Pine Tree. In conventional usage Pine Tree is the highest, but the Association inverts this order, placing Plum Blossom at the top, in accordance with a vision Reimei received during the war in which a Plum Blossom blossom carried a message for him. In his words, the ideal Dream Dealer moves through a patient's dream as the Plum Blossom's hidden fragrance moves through darkness: present as influence alone, never as form, and gone without a sound.

診察を希望する患者はまず吉夢課で受け付けられ、ヒアリングと初期診断が行われる。夢への介入が必要と判断された場合にのみ、夢境管理人によるセラピーが提案される。夢に入ってもらうかどうかは患者自身が選択できる。夢境管理人以外の能力を持つセラピストが担当する場合もあり、患者の状態や相性に応じて担当者の変更も行われる。セラピーの手法は担当者によって大きく異なる。行動認知療法を基準とする者、精神分析を軸とする者、グループワークを取り入れる者など、各セラピストが独自のアプローチを持っている。セラピーの完了は、患者の症状の改善と本人の同意を総合的に判断して決定される。
Patients seeking treatment are first seen by the Auspicious Dream Division, where an initial consultation and assessment are conducted. Dream intervention is proposed only when it is judged to offer therapeutic benefit; the decision to allow a Dream Dealer to enter one's dream rests entirely with the patient. Therapists with abilities other than dream dealing may also be assigned, and changes in practitioner are made according to the patient's condition and compatibility. The therapeutic approach varies considerably between practitioners. Some work from a foundation of cognitive behavioural therapy; others draw primarily on psychoanalytic method; others incorporate group work. The conclusion of a course of treatment is determined through a comprehensive assessment of symptomatic improvement and the patient's own agreement.

夢分析協同学会は、睡眠という行為の社会的重要性を強く訴え続けている組織である。眠りの質や時間の悪化は精神を静かに、しかし確実に蝕む。戦後の急速な社会発展は人々の生活様式を大きく変え、不眠や睡眠障害は個人の問題にとどまらず、社会全体の精神衛生に関わる問題として認識されるようになった。うつ病・不安障害・統合失調症・PTSDといった精神疾患の名称が広く浸透したのもこの時代である。夢境管理人は「夢」のスペシャリストとして、眠りを守ることが即ち人の心を守ることであるという信念のもと、精神衛生の向上に努めている。
The Association is an organisation that advocates consistently and with considerable conviction for the social importance of sleep. A deterioration in the quality or duration of sleep erodes the mind quietly, but with certainty. The rapid development of post-war society transformed the way people live, and sleeplessness and sleep disorders came to be understood not merely as individual concerns but as matters of public mental health. It was during this period that the language of psychiatric illness, including depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and post-traumatic stress, entered common usage. Dream Dealers work as specialists of the dream, guided by the conviction that to protect a person's sleep is to protect the person themselves.
